Thanksgiving 2026 Countdown: 100th Macy's Parade, NFL Holiday Slate and Travel Benchmarks

Mid-October is when many American households move from saving dates to making deposits. For the final six weeks of 2026, two anchors are already fixed: Macy’s 100th Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday, November 26, and an NFL holiday-week slate that begins on Thanksgiving Eve. This guide gathers the early confirmed details, the most recent published travel benchmark, and a few practical tools for planning without guessing.

The 100th Macy’s parade is set

Macy’s has confirmed that its 100th Thanksgiving Day Parade will step off at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 26, 2026, and finish around noon. The route runs about 2.5 miles from West 77th Street and Central Park West to Macy’s Herald Square on West 34th Street. Street viewing is free along approved sections, but the guide from My Christmas in New York notes that securing a spot requires an early start, with cold weather and street closures adding to the challenge.

For the milestone year, Macy’s will feature a record 100 inflatable elements, including new versions of classic characters. Among them are Billie Brightpaw, a towering bear introduced in the parade warehouse; Sorcerer’s Apprentice Mickey, the character’s 21st parade iteration in 92 years; Underdog, back after an absence dating to 1984; and Felix the Cat, who debuted in 1927. Bullwinkle J. Moose, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Popeye, Olive Oyl, and Swee’Pea will appear together on a Macy’s All-Star Float. NBC and Peacock will carry the broadcast.

Thanksgiving NFL slate and odds

The NFL’s 2026 holiday-week schedule includes five games. On Thanksgiving Eve, Wednesday, November 25, the Green Bay Packers visit the Los Angeles Rams for an 8 p.m. ET primetime kickoff. The usual Thanksgiving tripleheader follows on Thursday, with the Chicago Bears at Detroit Lions in the 1 p.m. ET early slot and the Philadelphia Eagles at Dallas Cowboys in the 4:30 p.m. ET slot, plus a third Thanksgiving Day game. A Black Friday standalone game on November 27 has the Denver Broncos at Pittsburgh Steelers.

For those who merge several bets, a parlay’s payout depends on each leg. A free parlay odds calculator can show combined odds and payout across American, decimal or fractional formats. For context, a special Thanksgiving parlay published by FOX Sports before the 2025 games carried odds of +1470 at DraftKings, meaning a $20 wager would have paid $314.08. Odds for 2026 will keep moving as the games approach.

What last year’s travel numbers suggest

The latest published AAA Thanksgiving forecast, covering 2025, projected 81.8 million people traveling at least 50 miles from home between Tuesday, November 25 and Monday, December 1. That was an additional 1.6 million travelers over the prior year and a new overall record. By mode, AAA projected 73.3 million by car, 6 million by air, and 2.5 million by bus, train or cruise.

Rental car partner Hertz said Wednesday was expected to be the busiest pickup day, and AAA booking data showed domestic car rentals were 15 percent cheaper than the year before. On Thanksgiving Day, the national average for regular gasoline was $3.06 per gallon. AAA also noted that it responded to nearly 600,000 emergency roadside assistance calls during the previous holiday period, most commonly for dead batteries, flat tires and empty fuel tanks.

Casino resort stays

Some families wrap a casino resort stay into a holiday trip, and those properties often publish event packages in late fall. For background on the resort, policy and development side of the industry before you call a property, the US casino industry news desk covers the US casino business daily. Specific 2026 holiday packages should be confirmed directly with the resort you are considering.

Keep a video for the drive

Official parade, lighting and game highlight videos often appear on YouTube, and organizers sometimes allow offline access through their own apps or channels. If you are flying or driving and want a saved copy of an eligible video, a free YouTube to MP4 converter can create an offline MP4 in HD or 4K where available. Use it only for videos you own, have permission to download, or that are offered for legal download.

Start here

Lock the parade and NFL dates first, then check the rental car and gas picture closer to departure. For a casino stay, confirm package details directly with the property. If you are betting, treat any parlay as entertainment and set a limit before you enter the legs.
